Picture Tour of Discovery Primary School
Discovery Primary School.
A brief history.
There has been a school on the current Discovery Site on Mountsteven Avenue since the original Walton Infant School opened in 1901.
Walton Junior School was constructed next door soon afterwards.
The two schools operated separately until 2007 when they were amalgamated to become Discovery Primary School.
The frontage seen from the road includes the two original school buildings dating from the early 1900's which were physically joined together by the stunning glass atrium - completed in 2011.
Inside the building you can track the development of the school from the original Victorian design, through the later 1970s extensions right up to the latest classrooms completed in 2015 to give the school a total capacity of 630 children.
The school looks very small from the road but extends back to accommodate:
21 Class teaching rooms,
A computer suite of 30 computers.
A languages support classroom
A Family support classroom
A hot meals kitchen
Two halls for assemblies and Physical Education lessons
Administration and Management offices
An outdoor space that includes a climbing wall, tyre obstacle park, a trim trail, a permanent gym, astroturf all-weather surfaces, a playground and a grassed space with either football or athletics markings depending on the season.
Inside, the school benefits from technologically advanced facilites including touch screen interactive boards in all classrooms, full class sets of iPads and access to a full range of support materials to help all children achieve their potential.
