The Team

Chair: Kevin Abbott (Parent Governor)

I joined the governing body as a parent governor in 2013 when my son joined reception. I am married and also have a daughter who is attending Discovery Academy. I am currently an Assistant Principal at Ken Stimpson Community School in Werrington and I am delighted to see so many of the young 'Discoverers' joining us in Year 7. I sit on the local Area Board of Young Enterprise, the Local Executive of the NASUWT teaching union and have previously been a trustee, director and former chair of the Economics, Business and Enterprise Association, a national educational charity.  I am passionate about my family, education and Liverpool Football Club!

I have recently retired after a career in education working as a primary school teacher and latterly as a SENCo. Having been brought up in Peterborough I started my teaching career in South Devon and have since taught in Peterborough and Cambridgeshire. I am married with two daughters. I am pleased to have been given the opportunity to be a Governor and I hope the skills and experience I have acquired throughout my teaching career and as a parent will enable me to make a contribution to the excellent work being done by everyone at Discovery Primary Academy as they strive to provide the best possible education for the children.

I come with plenty of experience of school ministry and enjoy very much taking assemblies at the academy and welcoming both KS1 and KS2 at times to church. I joined the governing body as a parent governor in 2013. I have 2 children one at Discovery Primary Academy and one at a local secondary school. I have spent a lot of time volunteering in the school during the last 5 years, first as a reading buddy and then onto assisting the teacher in the classroom. I currently work part time as an accountant, recently returning to work after a career break to be a full time mum. My governor responsibilities include being a member of the finance and pay committee as well as having several link roles to curriculum subjects.
