Reading

In Foundation our children start their reading journey with PM Starter books. These books are perfect for introducing fundamental reading concepts and skills to early and emergent readers.

As the children progress and move into KS1 they will have access to a huge range of Oxford Reading Tree scheme books. These books encourage reading for pleasure and allow children to apply their phonics knowledge with stories featuring well-loved characters.

We also have Story Sparks and Snapdragon books that are emotionally-engaging fiction series that will fire children's imagination and deepen their comprehension skills. These books offer different writing styles, fonts and illustrators to help build children's reading confidence

Children also have access to inFact and Fireflies books. These are non-fiction series that aims to engage children in reading for pleasure as powerfully as fiction does.

The books are carefully levelled, making it easy to match every child to the right book. These books are intriguing non-fiction titles with links to the wider curriculum

In KS2 children will move on to the  Accelerated Reader program is a computerized program that tests reading comprehension. Students select books on their reading level, read independently, and take an independent comprehension test on the computer. Each book is worth a certain number of points based on its length and reading level. This allows children some freedom in their choice of books which will encourage reading for pleasure.
